The Practice
The Hunter Street Medical Centre has served the people of Newcastle for the past TWENTY-one years and is dedicated to excellence in the physical, medical and emotional care and well being of all patients.
Thank you for visiting our web site. We sincerely hope that you find our practice a professional relationship as well as a continuing and rewarding one. The web site is intended to assist you view the services and facilities available.
We work as a joint Practice- please see the doctor of your choice for the problem at the time, however it is not necessary to continue consulting the same doctor on each occasion, as they all have access to your personal file.
In the interest of safety, your own health and the comfort of other patients and staff, we ask that you do not smoke in this Medical Centre.
Fee Structure. ALL PATIENTS ARE BULK BILLED.(EXCEPT W.C.Patients)
(Avaiation medicals, CASA, Police & Taxi-driver & Insurancee medicals)
Otherwise all that is required is your Medicare card.
This practice does not operate on the appointment system, except for non-medicare services ie medicals etc. which are not covered by Medicare and a cost is incurred.
Dr Summers can be seen by EITHER appointment or between 7am and 8am Tuesdays Wednesdays and Fridays.
All patients are bulk billed for consultations, home visits, pathology and minor medical and surgical procedures.
Most consultations are an approximate duration of 10-15 minutes, however patients do request other investigations, as for example Pap smears, pathology tests and various medical examinations which will extend this consultation time.
Should you require extended procedures such as removal of skin lesions or toenails etc; it is advisable to make an appointment at the front reception. Home visits may be organised for patients of this Practice, to their homes, hospitals or nursing homes etc. The request for a "home visit" will be assessed by the doctor concerned and arranged by the medical receptionist.
The Instruments and utensils used in this practice, are sterilized according to the Hunter Area Health Code of Ethics.
This sterilization procedure is the responsibilty of the specially trained and accredited staff personnel, with the strict guidelines adhered to.
After Hours
Outside surgery hours, telephone the usual number (4962 1900) and your call will be re-directed to "Deputy after hours medical facility" which will answer your enquiry and a home visit will be organised. If your need is deemed URGENT or LIFE THREATENING the after hours doctor will arrange for an ambulance to the hospital.
Emergencies
Emergencies are attended to at any time at this Practice should you have an emergency, please telephone ahead to alert the staff, or come immediately to the surgery and you will be attended to.
